The Department of Endocrinology at JJ Plus Memorial Hospital offers specialized care for the patients with endocrines disease. The hospital is equipped with state-of-the-art medical and surgical facilities in providing the high quality of health care.

Endocrinology is the study of hormones (chemical messengers) secreted by endocrine glands, which circulate in the blood to critically regulate many aspects of the body's function. Most of the glands are in the control of master gland called pituitary gland. Disease occurs when these glands imbalances their respective hormones.

Our endocrinologists have a very large experience in the management of all endocrine diseases from thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal and pituitary diseases to diabetes. They are also expertise using the cutting-edge technologies in the diagnosis and management of chronic fatigue syndrome and its endocrine reactions.

Our scope includes but not limited to: Pituitary Gland is a tiny organ, found below the base of the brain. It is also known as master gland which controls produces and segregates many hormones into our body, it also directs process in stimulating other glands to produce the different types of hormones. It makes types of hormones like

  • Prolactin
  • Growth hormone (GH)
  • Adrenocorticotropin (ACTH)
  • Thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH)
  • Antidiuretic hormone (ADH)
  • Luteinizing hormone (LH)
  • Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH)

The most common cause of pituitary gland is pituitary gland tumour.

Thyroid Glands is a small butterfly-shaped gland inside the neck, located in front of the trachea (windpipe) and below the larynx. It use small amounts of uses small amount of iodine to produce two thyroid hormones, one is tri-iodothyronine (T3) and other is throxine (T4). The thyroid disorders includes

  • Hyperthyroidism
  • Hypothyroidism
  • Thyroid Nodules and Thyroid Cancer

Adrenal Glands are normally small golden-yellow triangle shaped glands located on top of each kidney. The gland consists of an outer part (cortex) and inner part (medulla). The adrenal glands make hormones that are essential for body functions. The outer layer (cortex) of the adrenal glands makes three types of steroid hormones: (i) aldosterone, which is required for salt and water balance, (ii) cortisol required as our body's main stress hormone, and (iii) androgens (male hormones). The inner layer of the gland (medulla) makes adrenaline and noradrenaline, responsible for our 'fight or flight' response. Adrenal disorders includes:

  • Adrenal Adenoma
  • Hyperadrenalism
  • Hypoadrenalism

        Gonadal Diseases

  • Polycystic ovarian syndrome
  • Hypogonadism
  • Turner syndrome

        Bones

  • Osteoporosis
  • Hyper parathyroid
  • Vitamin D Defeciency

Diabetes occurs when the pancreas, a gland behind the stomach, does not produce enough of the hormone insulin. The disorders in the pancreas glands, include:

  • Type 1 diabetes
  • Type 2 diabetes
  • Gestational diabetes
  • Hyperglycemia
  • Metabolic syndrome
